    Default Backup question

Ok guys.. never did a backup before.. been only running zimbra for a few weeks..

I am trying to do a fullbackup of all my mail boxes using the zmbackup command.. I have read the wiki stuff on backups and i have the printed manual infront me..

the problem i am having is when i try to run the zmbackup command as the zimbra user.. it command not found.. and i am in the /opt/zimbra folder...

this is the command i use in my konsole as the zimbra user:
    zmbackup -i -s zimbra.chapmans.co.tt -a all -t /home/andreb/Downloads/backup

the zimbra does have permissions to write to that folder..

can someone tell me what i am doing wrong ??

    a) That's the incremental command (-i)
CLI - zmbackup Network Edition Only - Zimbra :: Wiki
    zmbackup -f -s zimbra.chapmans.co.tt -a all -t /home/andreb/Downloads/backup
    More importantly though:
    b) Are you on FOSS or NE?
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v
    http://www.zimbra.com/forums/announc...r-profile.html
I'm gonna guess FOSS which doesn't have automatic hot/live backups - which would explain 'command not found'
    Compare ZCS Editions
FOSS backup method: A_Simple_Shell_Script_Method - Open Source Edition Backup Procedure - Zimbra :: Wiki

    For the command not found...

What does $PATH show as the zimbra user?
    echo $PATH

If you are using the "-t" option for zmbackup, make sure the "backup" directory is owned by the zimbra user.

(giving you the simplest aside from disk images etc):
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol stop
    exit
sudo -i (or whatever to become root)
ps aux | grep zimbra (kill -9 pid# of any remaining processes)
    mkdir /zcsbackuprsync
    rsync -avHK /opt/zimbra/ /zcsbackuprsync/zimbra
    mkdir /zcsbackuptars
    tar -zcvf /zcsbackuptars/backup.zimbra.version.date.time.tar.gz -C /zcsbackup/zimbra .
-Then you can mv or scp /zcsbackuptars/backup.zimbra.version.date.time.tar.gz /elsewhereAsDesired
    Just in case:
-Have the old installer handy & already downloaded just in case you need to restore.
-Use the stuff in /zcsbackuprsync/zimbra which is still there unpacked/ready to go in order to get yourself up and running faster.

Link to the restore section of the FOSS method is above - but here it is again Restoring - Open Source Edition Backup Procedure - Zimbra :: Wiki
I just condensed the A_Simple_Shell_Script_Method - Open Source Edition Backup Procedure - Zimbra :: Wiki into a few key commands.

You 2nd question is asked a lot (and you can find a bunch of threads on this where the discussion goes on for days) the quick answer is that zimbra has setup relationships with lots of HSP's & VARS' http://www.zimbra.com/partners/
which often buy licenses in bulk - obviously the more you buy the price goes down per account and it would be unfair to undercut those sales.

you need to install the same version as what you backed up. if you have installed a newer version it could break lots of things due to LDAP schema changes etc.
