Question Upgrade to 4.5.10 GA Release on openSuse 9.3

    Hi ,
I don't see any distribution for openSuse 9 for upgrading...does the one for openSuse 10x also works with openSuse 9 ?
i would like to upgrade asap ... so , if anybody could give me an aswer on this one , would be great .
    thanks .

OpenSuSe 9.x is not a supported platform any more, you can check the Product Portal for details.

Phoenix ,thanks for the quick response. This brings another question for me..
how do i migrate my current Zimbra version and all the accounts&emails from openSuse 9 to OpenSuse 10 ? I know that if the OS was the same , the procedure was quite simple..(briefly : zmcontrol stop , backup /opt/zimbra , restore opt/zimbra, zmcontrol start)
Does this operation still works if i migrate from openSuse 9 to openSuse 10 ?
    my steps would be :
    1)zmcontrol stop
    2) backup /opt/zimbra to an external source
    3)upgrade from opensuse 9 to openSuse 10
4)copy/restore /opt/zimbra from the external source to the fresh installed OS
    5)zmcontrol start

After i have a working zimbra on openSuse 10 , i'll do the upgrade to 4.5.10

Of course , my purpose is here to upgrade zimbra to 4.5.10 without losing any emails or accounts i already have in zimbra 4.5.5 (on openSuse 9) .

    please advise.

That operation should work on openSUSE 10.x but I don't know the specific changes between those releases, I believe they were quite radical changes so I would really treat it as a different o/s for miggration purposes. While you're in this position, why not go for a long term supported (and stable) o/s such as Ubuntu 6.x LTS or CentOS5 - you wouldn't have to worry for quite a few years then.

Question Migrating zimbra from one OS to a different one

Thanks Phoenix. I will keep this options in mind.

This is what i'm looking for..what should i consider when migrating a working zimbra server (with account, emails, etc) to another OS ..let's say , i'll go from openSuse 9 to CentOS5 . where can i find any documentation on this one ? on the wiki i only found backup/restore operation for the same OS...

And i would like to do make this operation as transparent as possible for the regular email users

    Phoenix,

Is this still accurate at this moment? I want to install Zimbra Open Source edition on a new server ..i was using openSuse but i notice that support for openSuse 11 it's not supported by Zimbra yet and it's not sure it will be in the future either.. I'm trying to choose an operating system which is and will be suitable and supported by Zimbra.. could you please telll which are the best options which i should consider at this point? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's still accurate. There will be no support for openSUSE (check the Product Portal for details) after the 5.x releases of Zimbra. My suggestion would be to move to a supported operating system - for NE users then the only supported o/s is on the NE downloads page and if it's an Open Source installation then Ubuntu LTS & RHEL (CentOS is binary compatible and free) would be the best choice.
    Regards
