    Default Charter.net

I'm running a small email server and I cannot send email to anyone at charter.net.

I can telnet to ib1.charter.net and the connection times out.

telnet: connect to address 216.33.127.20: Connection timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out

All my attempts to send mail to charter time out and go to deferred status.

    dig a mail.example.com

To rule out whether it's your network or your server, you might try telnetting from another machine on your network. I just tried from a cygwin client on my machine and ib1.charter.net answers.

Since you're clearly resolving the name to the ip address (my machine resolves the same address), I would check firewall ports next. For example--can you ping that address? If you connect outside your firewall can you telnet?

In other words it looks to me like a networking issue, not a Zimbra one.

I believe that Charter block port 25 and I would assume that's true for sending to other charter.net addresses. You'll need to relay your mail through the charte mail servers.

They didn't when I tried yesterday. Telnetted directly to the server that stucker had referenced in his post and did a helo command; it went right in.

Ah well, another wonderful theory shot down in flames!

I must have been looking at an old post when they said they blocked port 25.
