Default Calendar: Event versus Appointment

Hello,
By "Event" I mean a calender day that is named or designated in some special way, such as an employee's birthday, a company holiday, etc. These "Events" just need to magically appear on a calendar without sending out an invitation, allocating resources, or any of the other things one needs to set up when setting up an "Appointment."
Is there a way to publish a simple Event to the calendar? Or would I be better off building a calendar server for this that pushes iCal feeds to subscribed users?

TIA,

Cody

Onto remote calendars? I think you may want to file a request for enhancement for that.

For now I would be happy being able to publish an "event" (as defined in my first post) to a calendar. I just want an event - no people emailed, no resources allocated, etc.

Being able to grant people permission to edit the global calendar would be nice...
If none of the functionality exists (yet?), then I will create a feature request. Just wanting to make sure I wasn't missing something. Where is my "Zimbra in a Nutshell" book?
