Question [SOLVED] POP3/IMAP Sending Mail Errors

I’m having the same symptoms as in this post:
[SOLVED] POP3 sending failure :( but I have not been able to resolve it per the thread. I have checked the wiki mentioned in that same thread, and with that:

    Code:
    [zimbra@mail root]$ zmprov gs mail.mydomain.com | grep Auth
    zimbraMtaAuthEnabled: TRUE
    zimbraMtaAuthHost: mail.mydomain.com
    zimbraMtaAuthURL: https://mail.mydomain.com/service/soap/
    zimbraMtaTlsAuthOnly: FALSE

    [zimbra@mail root]$ zmprov gs mail.mydomain.com | grep Mode
    zimbraMailMode: mixed
My firewall settings show NAT from my public IP to my server with the following services open: POP3 (110, 995), SMTP (25), Web Server (80), HTTPS (443), IMAP (143, 220, 585, 993) Zimbra Mgt (7071) and VNC (5900).

I’ve tried configuring Outlook Express but can’t send messages. I receive the following server time out error:

    Code:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.mydomain.com', Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
As far as the client set up, I’ve tried both POP3 and IMAP with “outgoing server requires authentication” turned on and off.

I can receive messages just fine. Web UI or Outlook Connector users have no issues what so ever.

One other fact is one of my users who is at the Office and behind the firewall sent me an e-mail using Outlook Express without issue.(?)

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated…

Do you have "Enable clear text login" checked on the POP tab of the Global Setting and/or Server setting?
    Regards

    Default Server Settings

    Good Morning Phoenix,

Thanks for the quick reply... Sorry I knew I forgot to post something about my server settings...

In both Global and Server settings I have the following for both POP and IMAP:

    Enable POP3/IMAP service = Yes
Enable SSL for POP3/IMAP = Yes
Enable clear test login for POP3/IMAP = Yes

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide.

    Thanks,

    Michael

Have you got any anti-virus scanning software on the Windows PC? If so, is it set to scan email? Can you create a test account for me to try a login? If you can send me the details in a PM.
    Regards

    Bill

    Phoenix,

As far as AV, yes but I have tried sending with it being both enabled and disabled with no luck.

Please check your PM, you will find the account information as you requested. The COS is the same as mine.

    Thanks again,

    Michael

Default Thanks for your help! - Answer To Post

    Hi Bill,

Well your reply in my PM has at least let me know that this is MY issue and not a problem with the server.

There is something up other than just my settings for POP or IMAP. I can't telnet to my server on port 25.(?) I keep getting a can't connect message when trying either the domain name or IP address. I think my IP is blocking port 25 unless it goes to their SMTP server. I have heard that Charter/Comcast will do things like that

For me this is not an issue as I use either the web UI on location visits or Outlook on my laptop. All of the users who use OE seem to be working correctly. Having moved to Zimbra 2 weeks ago, I think I would have heard something by now.

I told my DO and VP that we are making a good move in switching to Zimbra and the level of support has proved me correct.

My goal is to learn enough to be able to help someone else. Thanks for taking the time to work with those of us who are still, and never hope to stop, learning.

I'll mark this as solved as this is my issue and not one of my server.

Again, thanks for all your time and help.

    Michael

    Exclamation Follow Up

A follow up on this thread in hope of saving someone else the time and trouble that I had. One other item that has to be looked into if your users are having send mail issues is access to your server on port 25. My problems were all because my ISP blocks outbound port 25 traffic for it's dynamic IP customers. Once I changed my outbound SMTP server to my ISP's, things worked just fine.

I also want to mention how helpful phoenix was in helping me trouble shoot this problem. Hats off to him and the rest of the Zimbra team.

    Michael
