    Default Server status not available

Hi guys i had a zimbra 4.5 open source version running on a Suse 10.1, recently i had to back up all my zimbra and now it's working ok, the only issue that i have is when i enter into server status in the admin console, sometimes i got the info of the status and sometimes i got the message server

"status is not available To see the server status logger service must be installed"

i can solve this problem by starting the syslog (service syslog restart) but it's a problem because i do a cold backup every day at 4:00 am so my zimbra stops and starts every day at that time, imagine every day i have to restart syslog, i don't think it's very logical, any clue how can i solve this issue?

    Hey Danny,

The stopping and starting of Zimbra services should not affect syslogd; that's a *nix service that is not stopped by zmcontrol. Something else has to be stopping it.

I suppose you could add /etc/init.d/syslog start to the end of your backup script, but that's only a band-aid that doesn't address what's bringing it down in the first place. . .

Do your logfiles (the Linux ones in /var/log, not the Zimbra-specific ones) give any hint what's happening to the syslogd process?

    Dan

    Default Syslog is still running.

This is a problem with Zimbra and has supposed to have been fixed several times. NOT.

If you use something else to view the logs, like Webmin, you'll see they are up and running just fine. It's the Admin console in Zimbra that is messed up and I guess they just can't fix it. This has been going on in the last three releases of version 4.5.X.

Well, then it must be a problem with your install. I've seen several support cases, and every time it's something on the end user's side.

    How about more information than:
    "It's NOT fixed."

Default The message refeferenced in the original post...

Some mornings Zimbra tells me the logger needs to be installed and some morning the logger is running. This was a known issue (logger stops in the middle of the night) and supposedly fixed in 4.5.6(if I correctly recall the release info).

And I have posted about this issue in the past and was told the upgrade should fix it. But it didn't. Since everything else appears to be working OK I didn't pursue it any further.

I'm in the process of moving to 4.5.9. Can continue in more detail after I get the new version up and running.

Let's start with the logger stopping.
This was because of a cron job that was removing the pid file. So that's what we fixed.

    cat /var/spool/cron/zimbra

    Default Ps.

I'm glad EVERY TIME it was a user config problem and not a Zimbra problem.

    Are you always so curt(rude)?

I'm not going to respond to that.

Please post your cron tab file so that we can help you fix this.
