Logger for dummies?

Hi all,

I am experiencing the "logger/zmlogswatchctl" stopping issue that is discussed elsewhere on the forums.

I am running a open-source version from May of this year (don't know the exact number) and am planning on an upgrade, but that has to be scheduled for down-time etc. Can't do it right now...

My question - what exactly does the logger do? What happens when it stops? It seems like email is still being processed as normal - just wondering what the consequences were when it stops running.

As of what i know it's just logging everything that goes on. The only problem you might experience is the stats and troubleshooting if something else goes wrong. We use Network edition, but i guess it is the same shit. The logger goes very often down here too. Really pain in the ace.
