We have a functioning e-mail and contacts system and don't wish to change them, but we could use a good shared calendar system.
Is it feasable or reasonable to use Zimbra for shared calendars only?

You can use as much or as little of the zimbra system as you want - you can install it, and only use the calendar portion, if that fits your needs the best.
However, you can't install JUST the calendar, and integrating the calendar into your existing email system is going to be a lot of work...
