Default Remote IMAP clients unable to send email

We have remote clients that accessing their email via Thunderbird and IMAP.

They can receive emails no problems.

They can email other users on the same mail server with no problems.

They CANNOT however email users outside the server; and as you can appreciate this kinda renders the email server somewhat useless!

They are connecting to the SMTP server using authenticated details; yet that doesn't seem to make a difference.

What, as a Zimbra Administrator, do i need to do to allow my authenticated SMTP users to be able to send email while on the move?

    thanks

For me, I had to enable CRAM-MD5 security (I think that's the one) in order to be able to send email when connected via IMAP.

roopesh, i see no hint of that in any of my Zimbra admin.

I have all the options clicked that i can under the MTA tab.

This has got to be something, surely that people have come across before.

Look for those options in the IMAP client (e.g. Thunderbird).

I don't have an exact solution, but a couple of things to look at. First, what version of Zimbra are you running? If it is not the latest (4.5.6) then perhaps this is an issue that has been fixed in a later version. Second, have you checked the system logs for any clues as to what is causing the problem? I know you have things setup for SMTP authentication, but it almost sounds like another setting for anti-relaying is getting in the way. I use an external SMTP server to send outgoing Internet messages, so I'm not exactly sure what the proper Zimbra settings should be.

Thanks, I am running the latest Zimbra.

I have also got the necessary client side settings checked out.

If i am inside the same network as the zimbra server, then i have no problems.

Is there anyone that has experience in this, know anything?
