Why would you want to do that? It's in there because it might be a false positive, in Zimbra version 5 you'll be able to set the lifetime for the Junk folder.

Ok, thanks, but my users no deleted SPAM mesages or empty this folder and the space in the disk server is low.
Thanks.-
You don't say which version you're running (4.5.x?), there's a cron job in there that will empty that folder on a regular basis.

My version in 4.5.6 opensource. Please, that I must do in cron.
Thanls, phoenix.
Bill, do you know how the Junk Mail lifetime functionality will be implemented in v. 5? Have you heard of anyone who has already replicated it for 4.5.x? I was thinking about writing a script that would look in each users Junk folder for messages of a certain age and mark them as deleted and then have the zmpurgemessages script do the clean up. Do you think that would work? Thanks for any assistance.
Scott
What does the "timeout policy" for spam and trash mean (in Class of Service, Advanced Tab, bottom of the page) if not this very thing? I thought, and the help file seems to bear me out, that whatever setting you enforce there will force a cleanup of those folders. . .and this is on open source 4.5.6
Quoting from the ZCS help file:
Spam message lifetime
Number of days an email can remain in the Junk folder before it is automatically purged. The default is 30 days.
On the Preferences/Mail tab for a user there are (currently) a set of buttons that allow the user to specify a range day before the folder is 'emptied'. For the Junk & Trash folders it is 1, 3, 7 or 30 days, as dwmtractor mentioned the current default is 30 days and it's deleted via a cron job.

Bill,
I don't see those settings at all under the user's Preferences/Mail, but I DO have them in the admin UI under COS. If set there, does that override the user's ability to do anything (a good thing IMHO)?
Thanks, Dan

This is a version 5 feature I'm talking about.![]()
