Question Enabling ssl on port 8081 for zimbra web login (https)

    Hi,

I have installed zimbra with zcs-4.0.4_GA_457.FC4.tgz on FC4. It's running pretty fine & impressed on it's featurs . Thanks to Zimbra team :-)

Now I'm trying to use "https" for zimbra web login(it is http now).

For that I did like this,

    zmtlsctl https

    zmcontrol stop
    zmcontrol start

But I got a connection refused error.

and when I did "zmtlsctl http" , it works back again.

    My requirmet is like this,

    ----
Server is behind NAT & firewall (IP Tables)
web login url = http://mydomain.com:8081 (we have our web server running on the port 80 - behind the same NAT firewall and can't use port 80 for zimbra)

Now I want to change the zimbra web login url to https://mydomain.com:8081

    Possible?

Please help me to do that ...

    Regards
    -Vivek

The reason it doesn't work is because https is web mail client over ssl and uses port 443, you shouldn't need to specify the port unless you're using it for some other application.

Question Can't change the port 8081 - need ssl on 8081

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick reply!

I can't change my port 8081 since our web server is running on the port 80. (both mail server & web server are behind the firewall - NAT - and use the same public IP).

my current web url for zimbra = http://mydomain.com:8081/

I'm trying to change it to = https://mydomain.com:8081/

Is there any way to do that? I think it's possible.. as administration url = https://mydomain.com:7071/ ( it's ssl on 7071 port? so we should be able to do it for port 8081 also? )

    Please give me some hints

    Regards
    -Vivek

Let me ask another question, why can't you use port 443 for the https connection?

Question Need ssl for the port 8081

Ok, let me be clear on my question

http://mydomain.com - opens my web server page

http://mydomain.com:8081/ - opens zimbra web login

Zimbra is the live mail server for our 40+ employees and can't have any down time (maximum 10-20 minute will be ok).

    My First question is -

Is there any way to make the zimbra web login url = https://mydomain.com:8081/ (enable ssl for port 443) ??
There reason for this is we(all 40+ employees) are used to the port 8081 & don't want to change if possibe.

Question make https for zimbra & http for web server - possible?

Now my second Question is -

Can I use https for zimbra & http for our webserver (both are behind NAT)

    that is -

http://mydomain.com - should open my web server and

https://mydomain.com - should open zimbra web login

This should be very much possible I guess. Yes?

If possble, then how to do this? (simple "zmtlsctl https" will do?)

zimbra is configured to listen to the port 8081, what all the steps if we need to change this port ?

Any help would really be apprciated

    Thanks & Regards
    -Vivek
