added record to dns so that host "hostname" resolves to private ip. still no mail!

Did you restart Zimbra for good measure and flush the queue "postqueue -f"? After that can you send a message a post the contents of /var/log/zimbra.log

just checked after last post and mail is now in inbox. shouyld've checked before sending the log. thx for your help.

spoke too soon. no mail, again. what showed up must have been from the -f switch (?) getting a connection refused by internal dns for lookups.
