    Default sasldb2 permission denied

    Hello,

I got a problem with my zimbra installation. The system works fine but I have a minor problem I just recentlry encountered since I tend to use the webclient almost exclusively.

When I try to send a mail using a client like thunderbird and smtp I always get a password wrong reply.

The log then says: postfix/smtpd[21924]: warning: SASL authentication problem: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: Permission denied

I already gave the postfix user the rights to read that file. I did not expect it to solve the problem but I gave it a try anyway.

    Resulting in the following:

km20932-04 postfix/smtpd[22286]: warning: SASL authentication failure: no secret in database
km20932-04 postfix/smtpd[22286]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed

This is pretty obvious since I did not expect the mail users password to be in /etc/sasldb2...

But I wonder why does SASL try to look in that file and not ask the ldap server?

And of course my actual question is, what do I have to change to make the sasl auth work?

Angry sasldb2 sasl file cannot be found or permission denied

Grrr. I don't know what the deal is here.

After my install I had to create the sasldb2 file and manually add all of my users to it in order to auth to smtp.

    Code:
    saslpasswd2 -c username@domain.com
    > Password: (enter your passwd)
I don't think the community has a clue on this one. If you discovered anything new you should post it here.

PS: chmod 777 worked. But not for long, I don't want a whorish password file on my box.
