restore single mail folder for account?

From what I've been able to gather from the forums and the wiki, when doing backups with zmbackup, you only have the option of restoring a whole "mailbox" (i.e., a user's entire account).

Is there a way to restore only a single folder within an account? I have no idea how, but we have users that manage to delete a folder or two every so often and call us to have it restored.

If you restore an account from backup in-place, will it just add the items from the backup which are missing/deleted, or will it modify items received since the backup was made?

Not sure if the restore wipes the mailbox completely, but what I usually do is restore to a second account and then imapsync the folder to the correct account. When all is done, I delete the restored account.

Do you need to have the user around to type his password in for the imapsync, or do you temporarily reset the password for administrative convenience? I read in another thread that you can supposedly use admin auth to access a user mailbox, but I cannot conceive of how that would work.

You have a couple of options.

I prefer to use the admin auth, but you could reset the users password and make them reset it or have them type it in.

For the life of me, though, I can't remember if the admin auth is enabled by default or if you have to enable it. When it is enabled, in imapsync you would use --user2(correct user) --authuser2(adminuser) --password2(adminpassword)

You should be able to set the restored account password to whatever you want, since you'll be doing the maintenance with that one.

Thanks everyone for the help. Looks like the current plan is to test a restore of an account to an alternate account name (looks like the admin console suggests "restored_account"), and then use imapsync with the --authuser1/--authuser2 options to push requested folders over.
