Temporary DNS Outage Completely owns Zimbra server

Ok, not that dns outages should ever happen, when they DO happen, it seems to break the zimbra server... and only ever comes back up after a few reboots (no, the zmcontrol stop start doesnt actually bring it back online)

This is a 4.0 server that I am in progress of planning migration to 4.5.6 or 4.5.7, but wondered if I might be missing a setting or something? Seems kinda tempermental and fragile.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Well, as Postfix uses DNS to deliver the mail a DNS outage will cause some problems. Do you not have a slave DNS server on your LAN?

we're in the process of revamping current dns solutions, current co-lo facilities etc, but doesn't mean I shouldn't try and get zimbra handling things a little more gracefully.

Delivery isn't so much the concern, but the entire service just poops out, no ui, no nothing. Never comes back on its own.

Our dns is going to be completely replaced and should eliminate that from happening.
