I figured no one would respond!! Thanks Knitcap... you nailed it...although I have a slight modification to suggest:
Your procedure works to get it going on a one time basis (avoiding reinstall method). However, while in the "my computer" right click," manage", "services" area, and when right clicking to "start", also right click no properties and set "start up type" to automatic under the general tab so each time the pc is turned on, it runs the zimbra.exe file. This enables the service, but does not launch zimbra desktop (which is good, since I don't like my mail application window automatically launching on power up).
Thanks for your help, I will proliferate this to the rest of our organization, waiting to utilize desktop version.
