First you need a software that can play audio files
. For example: mplayer, vlc, mpg123 (aka mpg321)
I use the last one.
Then you need to edit Preferences -> External Commands -> Command to execute on new mail: and write the command to play the sound. My command is (without ""): "mpg123 ~/Musica/smokeonthewater.mp3"
