I have 2500 users, most of them undergraduates. 610GB store (df -i says 9.7 million inodes), 6.5GB redolog, 15GB db/data, 128MB openldap-data, 940GB backup (default 1-month retention).
I've got /opt/zimbra on a Compellent SAN, providing block-level HSM behind the scenes (which saves *a lot* of money, if you can bring yourself to trust Compellent's software -- there are a few other vendors with similar features), and /opt/zimbra/backup on a cheap SATA array on the other end of a 5km fiber link. The Compellent tells me that I've got about 100GB on FC RAID 10, 100GB on FC RAID5, and the rest on SATA RAID 5.
I am not doing compression or HSM at the Zimbra level because the SAN takes care of that for me. I am not currently doing ZCS archive/discovery, though I will start enabling it "soon."
