For Thunderbird to access Zimbra as a GAL I use:

General Tab:
- Hostname [Your host]
- Base DN [] (empty)
- Port [389]
- Bind DN [] (empty)

Uncheck Secure (SSL)


Advanced Tab:
- 500 results
- Scope [Subtree]
- Search Filter [(mail=*)]
