yes and that is exactly what I thought. I am very sure that it has to do with outlook 2007 or more so microsoft sql 2005 installed on both of these machines. These are the only common factors. What I have now found on the vista machine is that after turning off all UAC controls and basically giving access to "everyone" on the HDD I can get it to install under my (domain admin) account but noone elses. I am now just wiping vista off that pc as I have ran into too many other compatibility issues. I am still baffeled by the xp box however. Unfortunetly this is a users personal laptop and he has purchased office 2007 to use and obviously doesnt want it just wiped out.

Did you ever come to a solution on your box?
