Unfortunately I can't confirm the IE6 or 7 usage as my window machines are unavailable at the moment and I don't have access to a MAC. I would expect that IE use more memory than FF. Just out of interest are you using the most recent version of Java (1.5.0 update 12 on my system)? If this is a problem with a clean install of FF, I wouldn't wait for confirmation before filing a bugzilla report.
You can check the installed version of Zimbra via the admin UI in the help section.
