As this was only an 'edge' server I decided the easiest option was to just reinstall without the logger service this time.
Just completed it logged into the admin console on the main server and still get the same problem.
The services running on the 'edge' server are:
antispam
antivirus
mta
snmp
Services on 'mail' server are :
ldap
logger
mailbox
anitspam & antivirus (I want to remove these if I can get the edge server working correctly)
snmp
spell
mta
