What's the general consensus about IE7 performance compared to FF?
I think these two blog posts should help answer that question:

We're also constantly working on ways to speed up performance. We're well aware of the potential sluggishness of the web client (especially with IE6). The next major version of ZWC (v5?) has some better ways of delivering the web client to the user. For example, why download the entire codebase (i.e. calendar, address book, etc) when all a user wants to do is read email? So the next version will "lazy" load these components. This makes the download size of the necessary packages much smaller and therefore deliver faster.

There's also the basic HTML client for those that are still stuck with dialup or just sluggish connections. It wont have all the bells and whistles (i.e. calendar) but its a work-in-progress, and subsequent versions will have better support.
