i am currently runninc mysql db's (about 140) in sizes that range from 20 gigs to almost 1 tb, we used to have it on generic linux and moved to mac os x (10.4) we saw an increase of almost 13%. but then it depends on how large your HD's are as that affects the io.

also am not gonna turn this into a "what os is better forum"
