With regards to your copied dates vs original date issue... do a search in these forums for "zimdates". It's a script that someone wrote to modify emails and add a X-Zimbra-Received header to the message. This header gets used by zmlmtpinject as the original receipt date of the message.
It's designed for mbox format messages but you may get some idea how to use the info in your situation.
