I am having the same problem.

I have set all of my information up to match what I have in my functioning Thunderbird install on the same machine.

The only difference is that the outgoing mail server here uses TLS, not SSL and does not support unsecured connections.

Whether or not I check SSL in the outgoing mail section, I get the same error as the original poster. Even when I try to use my (external, tested working) smtp server without security, I get the same SSL error message.

I cannot get past this screen at all. If I remove my SMTP info, it tells me I have to fill something in. If I fill it in, I get an ssl error.

Unfortunately, the error does not give an indication regarding which mail server it can't connect to, so troubleshooting is difficult - is it the incoming or the outgoing that is choking zimbra? Can't tell because it doesn't tell me!

My incoming server is imap, and I have used the exact settings that are working in my thunderbird install.
