Of course the tgz format itself shouldn't be a problem, even on windows.
I'm just saying the 2 zimlets don't do the same thing.
With email downloader, when I save a mail with an attachment, in the tgz I get a .eml file and a .meta file. I don't get directly the attachment files. As I said, you need a mail client to open the .eml file to read the mail and get the attachments.
