I am running ZD 1_0_2 build 1652 on Toshiba Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium, 320 GB HD, 4 GB RAM, T6500 Intel CPU. I was in directory c:\Users\Debbies\AppData\Local\Zimbra\zdesktop when I ran the script that was listed for a windows installation at the link provided earlier in this thread. I received the 'java' error at this point. I have the zimlets I want to deploy stored in the zimlets subdirectory. I substituted the zimlet name in the example command with the zimlet that I wished to install.
The Zimbra product looks nice on the outside but it sure isn't inuitive to get setup. This will hinder it's being adopted by the general public. I hope to see these issues resolved, because this is a promising piece of software.
