What you call your 'LAN firewall', does it actually act as a firewall for the LAN itself or just for inbound traffic from the internet? If it really acts as a LAN firewall then you'll need to open the ports for Zimbra. If you're getting a timeout then that's symptomatic of a firewall blocking access.
