The iSync Connector doesn't seem to be on its way out, as it is the best way to sync Address Book to Zimbra. Plus the ease of configuring iCal for Zimbra CalDAV accounts is simplified--the connector is very adept at setting the proper log-in and path, especially at my company where we have so many domains and sub-domains.
