The inevitable reboot fixed it! Something odd seems to have happened to my system and I'm not sure what. If I do 'zmprov gas' it returns the error & the correct hostname, in fact every command seems to produce the correct results except the hostname command, that just returns a value of 'A'. I'll do some more digging and see if I can find out what's happening, I'll post back to this thread if I find the answer or (more likely) i need some more help.
Just as an idle thought, I don't suppose the fact I ignored the zimbra warning about there being no MX record would have made the install do anything odd to my system?
[edit]
As per the title, al the config files were correct and a restart of BIND did nothing so a rebbot was in order and voila - everything's back to normal. Now I suppose it's a chicken and egg question, did the problem happen after this mornings power-on and cause the zimbra install to not find the MX record or did the install routine change something it shouldn't have and cause the subsequent 'missing' hostname?
