Moving Data From One Account to Another Account

You can export all of your account data, including email messages and attachments, contacts, calendar, tasks, Documents notebooks and Briefcase folders, or you can export specific items in your account.  You can then save the data to your computer or other location as a backup. The account data is saved as a tar-gzipped (tgz) archive file so that it can be imported to restore your account.

You can use the Zimbra Desktop Import/Export feature to export all the data for a selected account, including email messages and attachments, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc., or export specific data such as contact lists or calendars from one email account and then import the data to another account on Zimbra Desktop.  The account data is saved as a tar-gzipped (tgz) file so that it can be imported to another account on Desktop.  You can also use the Export/Import feature to save individual account data to your computer or other location a backup. The account data is saved as a tar-gzipped archive file that can be quickly imported to restore your account.

The data are copied, not removed from your account.

You  export the file from your Options>Import/Export tab.

To export data
  1. From the  Options tab for the account you want to export, click the Import/Export tab.

  2. Either export all account data or selected a specific type of folder to export.

  1. Click Export and select where to save the file.

  2. Click OK.

  3. The exported account data file can be viewed with an archive program such as WinRAR archiver.

 
To import saved account data

You restore an account from the file that you exported.  

  1. From the  Options tab, click the Import/Export tab.

  2. In the Import, Type section, select the type of item to import, either Account, Calendar or Contacts. If you import Calendars or Contacts, specify the format that is being imported. See Importing Contacts and Importing your iCal calendar.  When  Account is selected, only the tgz file that you have already exported can be imported to your account.  

  3. Note: The type, Account, means the account you are now working in (Yahoo!, GMail, AOL, etc.).

  1. Browse to find the file to be imported.

  2. Select the destination.

  3. If you are importing account data, check the appropriate option in Resolve duplicates fields.

  1. If you  want to import specific types of data from the tgz file, check Advanced Settings to expand the view and select the item types to restore.

Select specific types of items from the saved tgz file to import in the Data Types section. When you click Import only those item types are imported.

  1. Click Import.
