Direct and Software-as-a-Service Offerings Reach More Than Eight Million Paid Mailboxes in 45 Countries
SAN MATEO, Calif. - May 21, 2007 - Zimbra, the leader in open source, next-generation collaboration and messaging software, today announced that its remarkable momentum continued through the first quarter of 2007. With more than two million mailboxes added in the first quarter, Zimbra now serves more than eight million paid mailboxes worldwide. In addition to growing its direct, on-premises customer base by nearly 70 percent in the first quarter, Zimbra has added more than 80 new partners including VARs, distributors, system integrators, and hosted service providers. Together, Zimbra and its partners serve customers in more than a dozen vertical markets.
"Users and enterprises demanding flexible, innovative collaboration alternatives are driving our tremendous worldwide growth across industries ranging from healthcare to government to consumer ISPs," said Satish Dharmaraj, Zimbra co-founder and CEO. "With the support and feedback of the Zimbra community, we've achieved several huge milestones already in the first quarter of 2007, including the launch of Zimbra Desktop, allowing universal access to Zimbra's rich Web 2.0 collaboration experience."
Zimbra's global growth includes momentum in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions, which represent more than 30 percent of new customers this year. Zimbra's customers span 45 countries and six continents, and the Zimbra solution has been translated into 18 languages.
"Our millions of broadband customers demand a world-class Internet experience, and our partnership with Zimbra delivers an innovative Web 2.0 collaboration service with advanced search capabilities, support for large mailboxes, integrated virus/spam protection, and differentiated tiers for premium users," said Mukul Sood, VP, Content and Applications for VSNL (a Tata company). "Zimbra gives us the opportunity to create a branded experience that integrates into our portal and provides multiple monetization options."

"Microsoft Exchange and Zimbra were among many platforms we evaluated in choosing the right collaboration solution," said Matthew Schrock, IT Director at Trinity Health Group. "The complex, proprietary architectures offered by most vendors did not serve our users' needs. Zimbra offers innovative features and improved productivity in a suite that's easy to deploy, use, manage and extend."
"After a rigorous RFP process and vendor review followed by campus feedback via surveys, meetings, demonstrations and usability testing, Zimbra emerged as the clear favorite among faculty, staff and students," said Bruce Maas, Interim CIO of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. "Our goal was to select an e-mail and calendar solution that would meet the needs of our diverse campus constituency, especially students, be cost-effective and work within our infrastructure. We are confident that the Zimbra Collaboration Suite will meet our needs for many years."
Zimbra's emphasis on and responsiveness to its community is illustrated by the nearly 8,000 active members in Zimbra's forums who have cast more than 2,000 new votes for product enhancements this year.
